Resume & Elevator Image

Description:
An elevator image is an image that portrays who you are as a person, or in others words your personal brand. It is not a sales pitch or a promotion of yourself. It is simply an image and one word that accurately describes you.

Reflection

When turning in my resume for the first time, I was decently confident about it. However, after gaining friedback I realized in reality it was hot garbage. After the first friedback I realized that I was just overthinking my resume. I had lots of words that really did not mean anything or show who I am as a person. My original resume was very guiding, using labels such as "cell" and "email" when the content was obviously my contact info. It also did not represent me at all except in my interests section. To fix this, I created an "About" section that describes what and where I am studying and my past experiences in entrepreneurship. I think that by including this it, helps present not only what I am about to employers but it also presents my education and experience. Another big issue I had on my resume was that it was two pages. The first time I made my resume, I wanted to include everything I possibly could. I guess, to an extent, I was looking for the first right answer, which included all my experiences. I also went so in-depth into each experience that I ended up repeating myself multiple times. After hearing some friedback I realized that there were definitely some things I needed to take off. I had lots of stuff on my resume that was not related to what I want to do when I graduate. In response to this I cut out lots of bullet points on my resume and even cut out sections because of this. One thing that was a funny moment but really clicked with me was when Dr. Friedman said, "Do you want to be a forklift operator when you graduate," when seeing I still had my forklift certification on my resume. Originally, I thought it would be good to include because it was something I had done in the past, but in reality, there was no reason it should have been on my resume. Overall, when it comes to my resume, this was one of the first failures of the class, but in the end, I 100% feel like I learned from the failure, and my resume ended up being better because of it.
When creating my elevator image and trying to find my brand, I asked my mom, dad, sister, grandma, girlfriend, and a few friends to describe me in one word and give me an example of when I was this word. I got responses such as competitive, loyal, and compassionate, and stories for each response. However, I got three responses for loyal, and although that wouldn't have been my first thought for my brand, I chose that. The first time I turned in my elevator image I failed in two ways and both were pointed out during Friedback. The first failure was not using my name in the image, which was one of the things I was directly supposed to do. I included my initials "EMM"; however, my elevator image has an audience, and they would have no clue what that means. My second failure was once again using the first right answer. When thinking of the word "loyal," I instantly thought of a dog, and as a result, I chose an image of my uncle's late dog, Stout, as he really meant a lot to me. However, when looking at the image, it really does not portray "loyal" at all. Therefore, I searched the internet for a long time, trying to find an image that looked more "loyal," but I could not find one. In response to this, I used Chat GPT to create an image that I believe displays "loyal." I asked it to make me a black lab with scars from battle standing by his owner's side. Next, I picked the quote, "Loyalty is the same whether it wins or loses; the matchless flame," and added it to my image. I picked this quote because, time after time, I have always been loyal to those around me and what I want, no matter what. I have failed many times in my two businesses and even had to shut one down. However, I will never stop trying to start a business because that is something I have always wanted to do and am loyal to. Overall, after adding these elements I now believe my elevator image show "loyal" and is a good representation of my personal brand.
